Sound Therapy with Tuning Forks

Sound Therapy with Tuning Forks

Let’s explore some question about sound therapy with tuning forks.

  • How do you use tuning forks for sound therapy?
  • Why use tuning forks for sound Therapy?
  • Do tuning forks for healing work?

There are two types of tuning forks used in tuning fork therapy, weighted and unweighted.

What’s the difference?

Weighted forks can be struck on a tuning fork activator or the side of the hand (we don’t recommend this, it can really hurt!). Place the fork stem/handle on the body until the vibration ends. Repeat this process as often as needed, three to six applications is common.

The sound is low and can last for some time. The forks used on the body reduce muscle pain, stress and increase relaxation. A ‘tuning fork boot or foot’ attachment on the stem is used to glide the fork over the skin or for acupressure points. The fork accessories are made from metal or crystal gemstones in a variety of sizes.

Unweighted forks ‘used off the body’ in the biofield or energy field surrounding the body produces a calming effect. Two forks struck at the same time and placed either side of the head creates a binaural beat.

What Are Binaural Beats?

Listening to two tones, each at a different frequency and each in a different ear creates a third tone. This third tone is called a binaural beat, the difference between the two tones.

For example, one tone at 200 hertz (Hz) and the other tone at 210 Hz, as a result the binaural beat you hear is at 10 Hz.

In other words tuning forks slow down brain waves, with this intention the receiver feels deeply relaxed and calm. During tuning fork sessions a lot people usually go into a meditation state or fall asleep. The central nervous system gets ‘time off’ from the stressors of daily life giving the body an opportunity to settle and unwind.

Tuning forks are positive tools for relaxation, calming anxiety or releasing emotions from the body for people of any age. They are not recommended during pregnancy or for people with compromised health especially cancer or chronic conditions.

Drink water before and after tuning fork therapy sessions and remember to soak your feet in or have a bath in magnesium post session.

Always seek medical advice, sound therapy is not a replacement for conventional treatment.
